'Inhale, and God approaches you. Hold the inhalation, and God remains with you. Exhale, and you approach God. Hold the exhalation, and surrender to God.'
Yoga is a way of getting in touch with your 'Self'. It is a state of balance and harmony of body, mind and soul.
Yoga for elders has been specifically designed. Growing old is an unavoidable circumstance that can be a beautiful and gradual process if you take care of your health. The process begins with exploration of body posture which gently stretches and contracts every muscle in the body. Joints are encouraged to move freely and strength and stamina are increased. The result is improved posture and greater vitality. Asanas also bring strength and flexibility, health and vitality and in turn calms the mind and reduces fatigue.
One of the main aspects of yoga is deep relaxation! What is relaxation here? The word 'relax' comes from the Latin meaning - 'to let go', this in Yoga is interpreted as setting free the energy to its relaxed state. Relaxation is as much mental as physical. In order to keep a balanced level of tension there must be harmony between the mind and the body. Our thoughts reflect our physical state and vice versa. The key to this state of harmony practiced in yoga is the breath. When anxiety and muscle tension are height, breathing is short and centered around the upper chest. When energy is low, particularly after an illness or even depression, breathing is centered around the diaphragm and rarely reaches the upper chest. By regulating the way we breathe and in turn learn to make full use of the lungs, we can change the way we feel and our energy resources are increased as the blood stream receives a richer supply of oxygen.
Yoga teaches us to live in the present and to use our energies in dealing with situations as they arise and not before. The Yoga practices bring forth a positive way of life seeing life in a new more confident way instead of being a prey to unnecessary influences and making better the lives of those who share it with us.
Yoga is a form of medicine and it has been used as a tool of psychological and spiritual evolution for thousands of years.
The end result for every one is increase mental clarity, emotional stability and a sense of overall well being.

THE THERAPY
Yoga Therapy could be called a system of health care that helps treat human indispositions as naturally as possible, to alleviate pain and suffering through set of exercises, both physical and mental. Ideally, yoga therapy is preventive in nature, as is Yoga itself, while being curative in many instances, soothing in others, and restorative in most.
Yoga therapy is of modern denomination and represents man’s first attempt to combine age-old concepts and techniques with contemporary medical and psychological know-how. Traditional Yoga was primarily concerned with spiritual transcendence, with yoga therapy aimed as holistic treatment of a variety of psychological or psychosomatic disorders.
What approach does yoga therapy take?
Contrary to modern medical science that tries to identify the pathogenic factor (be it a toxic substance, a micro-organism, or metabolic disorder) then eliminate it, Yoga takes a totally different point of view. It holds that if a person is sick there must be a deeper reason behind it – that illness doesn’t arise by chance. It is the result of an imbalance, a disruption in the body-mind complex that creates the condition.
How is yoga therapy done?
The six steps of Yoga for overall well being:
1. Right Posture - Asanas
A set of postures that tone up the muscles and internal organs, revitalize the system, create overall awareness of the body and its function and help tranquilize the mind.
2. Right Breathing - Pranayama
A set of simple breathing techniques that slowdown and normalize breathing.
3. Right Cleansing - Kriyas
A set of easy and effortless hygienic procedures.
4. Right Diet - Balanced Yogic Diet
Most, if not all, illnesses are in some way linked to wrong food habits. A slight modification in dietary habits can rehabilitate the entire system.
5. Right Relaxation - Shavasana
A process designed to soothe both mind and body. Yoga holds that tension is dis-ease (i.e a state if unease) and relaxation is health.
6. Right Mindset - Meditation
Meditation is a technique used to stabilize the mind, increase concentration and will power, balance cellular and develop one-pointedness.
