A warm welcome to the Teacher Training and continuing professional development of Yoga at mylifeYoga.
"Teaching Yoga also gives us the impetus to learn more about Yoga and deepen our own practice. We are obliged to widen our understanding of Yoga and its vast repertoire of practices and to develop awareness of their effects on our body, mind and emotions. Only when we do this are we ready to share these practices with others so that, with guidance, they too may discover their effects and benefits for themselves. Teaching Yoga requires us to deepen our self perception and understanding. Without this we cannot help others to deepen their understanding. It can be a vital factor in our own transformation as well as that of our students. Teaching Yoga is about developing our intuition and sensitivity so that we know what is appropriate for the student. We learn to 'feel' a situation and know when it is right to offer guidance and support, when to change tack, when to step back and when to be silent."
There is no national or international certification programme for yoga teachers as such, (each school or institute has its own certification programme as students are asking for it) and it is unlikely that it will, because of the traditional nature of Yoga instruction. For many thousands of years, Yoga was transmitted from teacher to student on a one-to-one; only comparatively recently has Yoga been offered in a group class format. Advanced practice of Yoga still is best undertaken on a one-to-one basis.
Teaching Yoga should not be viewed as a hobby or a sideline undertaken by someone who reads a couple of books and decides to become a Yoga teacher; he or she must be under the constant supervision of his or her personal Yoga teacher. This relationship between teacher and student is taken very seriously by both parties and is never entered into lightly.
To begin with you must start your personal Yoga practice every day and study regularly with your own teacher. We do not recommend starting to teach Yoga without several years of study. Get a good solid base in your own practices with a teacher, read and study about Yoga practice and philosophy, and build strength, awareness, and health, including a vegetarian diet. Teaching is hard work, and if you try to do it without being in top condition physically and mentally, you do a disservice both to yourself and your students.
mylifeYoga teachers training programme is of a unique one. As learning and practicing Yoga is a life long activity, we continue to learn as we move along the different stages of life. Therefore our teachers training programme falls under 9 sections of which a student must complete to be a true eventual practitioner under our standards as a yoga teacher or even as a yogi/yogini.
Yoga cannot be taught and learn in 4 to 6 weeks for a person to become a teacher. It needs immense training and commitment with discipline of the student and relationship with the teacher to have such a desired result. Yoga is for a lifetime and to be a teacher in Yoga much needs to be accomplished and so virtually impossible to master yoga in this short time.
When you apply for our Teachers Training programme; mylifeYoga will ascertain what levels of practice and knowledge you would have at the time of applying that will fall into anyone of our nine stages. It is from this that your level of training will be taught as 'Teachers Training' so that you are on the right track of being a true Yoga teacher, that would do justice to you and your students. Remember there can be no compromise.
mylifeYoga’s teachers training are on 9 levels that span a total of 3 years of continues study to be a profound teacher in the Guru-Kula style.
As we find students who cannot spend a complete three year course with us; we have designed our teachers training programme in 9 levels so that eventually you have an organized way of developing yourself to be a good teacher. We also state that what ever levels you maybe in; you are competent to teach to such levels.
Our teachers training is also inclusive of the study of Sanskrit, Patanjali Yoga Sutras, Chanting and Vocal training amongst other activities that are planned for you at different levels of practice with us.
The teachers training with us is for 6 weeks. This training is to polish you and correct you in your practice so that you understand what level you are at and what you need to achieve to be a teacher. Your level is ascertained by the concerned teacher if you are new to us. Once you have begun your study with us then you will fall into a regular system whereby you yourself will be able to judge and move along to be a master - Yogachary.
You are welcome to apply and ascertain your standard of practice with us. Each intense 6 week yoga Teachers Training will move you to the next level subject to your commitment and practice. GMA will not certify that the student is ready for the next level unless the present level is completed in satisfaction. Please note that each level of training as a teacher will entitle you to teach up to such a level only.

The Course
The principal objective of our yoga courses is to create and develop the deep understanding of yoga at beginners, intermediate and advanced level and to teach the principles and philosophy of yoga, its application in reference to applied aspects of yoga and meditation. The qualities demanded from an aspirant are discipline, faith, tenacity, surrenderness and perseverance to practice regularly without interrupts.
This course offers excellent training in teaching skills which prepare students to be confident and competent 'Yoga Instructors - Teachers and finally Yogacharys'. The aim of the education is to guide each student to deepen their understanding of Yoga and the practical use of such understanding.
During the course, students have the opportunity to learn a series of styles and variations of postures. mylifeYoga has designed and developed different techniques for each posture, thus helping the student to achieve many difficult and complicated postures. These techniques develop flexibility, suppleness, awareness and most importantly, the deeper relation of the body to the mind, and the mind to the body; and finally the connection to the Soul. This course is a good preparation for advanced Yoga practices for the future.
Upon successful completion of the course, each student will receive a diploma in their area of study. Our diploma is a highly valued certification presented by our parent Gnyana Mantapam Academy.
At mylifeYoga your learning will cover many aspects including how to confidently and competently teach asana classes, design and teach a course, to take care of yourself and your students.
So whether your inclination is primarily physical – an intuitive, solitary approach to practice – or more externally interactive and community-oriented, we recommend being open to receiving the guidance of an authentic Teacher, and being genuinely grateful when this happens.
